Father's Day is Over

My DH, Paul, is a locomotive engineer for a "family friendly" major rail company. Paul works on a rotating board and when your number is up, it is up. Predictably, he was called to be on duty Sunday, Father's Day.

In true railroad fashion, we just rescheduled Father's Day (all feasts are moveable). On Moday, Paul received a call to "dead-head" home. He arrived about 10:00 AM and by noon, his exhaustion caught up with him. I shopped and made a lovely "manly" dinner of prime rib, garlic mashed potatoes, fresh spinach salad with orange and pineapple. My dear friend Robin made a lovely batch of cheese straws and a chocolate peanutbutter cake that was DIVINE!

The kids gave Paul some sweet hand-painted coasters. These clever coasters started out as 4" square porous unsealed tiles from the home improvement center. We used permanent markers to draw an outline of a butterfly, leaf, etc. I then got the girls to color with washable markers. The magic happens when you then paint with water making something that looks like water colors (some can even be blotted off). After they dry, a quick seal coat with clear spray paint and some adhesive cork backing and they were complete.

I hope that I can get my camera working a put some pictures here. It was a beautiful Monday. I was humbly thankful for all that I have been given.

I'm feeling the itch...

I just can't stand it...diet, exercise, being good on soooooooo many fronts. I am going to the yarn store. I want some pink and brown yarn for a two more baby blankets. I should work on the sweater I have started or the adult afghan, but I want to enjoy the feel of the cotton- just feels like summer.

I think this means that I am completely addicted. I already have a stash. Shhhhhh! Don't tell Paul!

What happened to the "lazy days of summer?"

I'm sure everyone feels this way, but we are a week into summer and I have done no crochet, no reading, no home improvement projects...

I have spent my time working from home, catering to kids and carting them to the pool. The funniest thing of all is that next week is Vacation Bible School. I do not know if it will ever let up!

I The only feather in my cap is my current progress at establishing a workout routine. I have hit a new high of five consecutive days!!!!!

Maybe I can take the crochet on vacation... for all who know my family, please laugh hysterically now.

These have to be the sweetest little figures. I just stumbled upon the site and I am in love!

One last day of peace...

There is only one last day of peace and then the children are loose. Tomorrow at 1:00 pm they are free and I am full-time Mom. I bet this really makes me drop a stitch or two...

Last night in a fit of mania I completed a baby blanket for my neighbor Candace. Candace is expecting a boy in about four weeks. I finished this one early - what a shock! The pattern is of my own making, but ... The stitch and all is so simple that I am sure I reinvented the wheel. I do not feel too bad since I invented my wheel after only 6 months of crocheting.

I will have to post pictures later. My camera's battery is dead and will not resurrect. I will get a new battery tomorrow and hopefully figure out how to show off my work.
